Financial Fantasia

I got my new bankbook today, and it’s covered with Disney characters. This kind of branding used to strike me as strange, but with all the financial scandals going on these days, I suppose Micky Mouse and Goofy are indeed perfect representations of Japanese Banks.

I remember when I first went to open an account in Japan. I was given a choice of a cute Snoopy ATM card or a plain red one. I said something along the lines of, “duh, the plain red one off course” and the guy that went with me told me a Japanese would have always chosen the Snoopy one. Was quite shocking at that time, though doesn’t seem all that strange now.
At least the Japanese banks are honest about what they are. Other banks make you believe they’re the most reliable and professional thing out there until you get burnt.

Yeah. You tend to become immune to the cuteness after a while. A while ago a saw a woman walking down the street with a $1,500 Prada handbang with a Hello Kitty strap dangling from it.
